How to get tenants to stop smoking?
I’ve asked my first floor tenants to stop smoking and they don’t seem to listen to a word I say. What are my rights and how can I get them to stop smoking?
FYI: most apartments in Chicago do not have contracts, but there are still actions you can take. But what are they?
be glad you have tenants.

Has anyone decided to give up smoking since the ban?
I am just interested as a few people i work with have given up. I didn’t think it would really bother people going outside but it obviously does. If you are giving up how are you doing and how are you doing it?
I have been trying to give up for a long time. I found that I’d give up for even months at a time and then lapse back into smoking after going out to a pub. It’s hard to fight the craving when so many people around you are smoking, so I’d buy some "just for the night" but then of course in the morning there would still be some left in the pack that I’d finish…and without realising I’d be back in the habit (smoking, not a nun’s dress of course).
I was going to give up on Sunday, but for various reasons didn’t. I’m almost certain this time it will be a little easier though. I hope so.

SMOKERS: Have you tried an electronic cigarette? How does it compare to normal cigs?
I’m looking to try the e-cig, but I don’t want to spend $100 if I just go back to normal cigs. What are your opinions?
NON-SMOKERS: Please no lectures. I know, It’s disgusting and I’m killing myself. I KNOW.
Hello Claire,
I have various ecigs and I love them. You don’t need to spend more than $100 for a good quality ecig. And please also consider that over time you save money since the refill cartridges are cheaper than tobacco cigarettes.
Please take a look at this buying guide.

It gives you useful information for making a decision and it lists 4 starter kits under $100

How come you get depressed when you quit smoking?
Is it an actual side effect of nicotine leaving your body? I have quit smoking a million times and usually find myself lighting back up cause I can’t stand the misery.
But this time i’ve lasted over a month. I feel great. I’m not depressed anymore. Tho i’ve had heaps of bad shit happen to me while trying to quit, i’m pretty happy.
But my poor husband gave up smoking 4 days ago. And he’s miserable. Everything to him is negative. I hate to see him this way. I was that way too!
Is there anything to help him not be depressed. Or do you just have to get through those evil 2 weeks without smoking and it will go away. Is there a magic vitiman?
When you are a regular smoker your brain gets used to the nicotine. Once you quit it creates a chemical imbalance in your brain because you took away a chemical that has become part of the regular system. This most likely causes headaches, depression, and cravings. It is also why using gum and other methods that have some nicotine in them help people quit. It reduces the amount of nicotine slowly over time to help the brain functions learn to balance and operate without the nicotine. I would recommend just using one of those systems offered in drug stores or use your own such as going from say a pack a day to half a pack for a week then a quarter of a pack for the next week to 2 a day for a week to one a day for a week then one every other day for a week to none. This way the brain should balance out and he should be much healthier and happier! Good Luck!
